Ginola, David


French footballer who in 1999 was voted the English Football Writers' Association Player of the Year, and the English Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year. A winger, or attacking midfielder, with exceptional dribbling and passing skills and an ability to score spectacular goals, he played in the French league for Toulon 1985–88, Racing Paris 1988–90, Brest 1990–92, and Paris Saint-Germain 1992–94, before moving to the English side Newcastle United in 1995. In 1997 he was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur, before the club sold him to Aston Villa for £3 million in 2000. He won the first of 17 international caps in 1990.
