Directoire Style


French decorative arts style of the period from about 1792 to 1799, following the Revolution. The style, which took its name from the Directory, the government of the day, introduces revolutionary art motifs, such as the pike of freedom, into neoclassicism. A noted furniture designer working in the style was Georges Jacob.
