Sex Hormone
Any one of the steroid hormones produced and secreted by the gonads (testes and ovaries). Sex hormones control development and reproductive functions and influence sexual and other behaviour.
Examples include testosterone, progesterone, and oestrogen.
The German biochemist Adolf Butenandt was the first to isolate sex hormones and to elucidate their molecular structures.
