Equal Pay Act 1970


Act of Parliament which lays down that a woman must receive the same pay and conditions of work as a male worker in similar employment. Trade unions have played an important role in assisting women to take cases of discrimination to industrial tribunals and then, if necessary, on through the courts to the highest court of law, the European Court. The Equal Opportunities Commission has also supported cases.
