Beckenbauer, Franz

German footballer who captained West Germany to the 1972 European Championships and the 1974 World Cup, and was twice European Footballer of the Year. He played club football for Bayern Munich, SV Hamburg, and the New York Cosmos, winning several domestic and European honours.
