Warner, Deborah
English theatre director. She founded the Kick Theatre company in 1980. Discarding period costume and furnished sets, she adopted an uncluttered approach to the classics, including productions of many Shakespeare plays and Sophocles' Electra (1989).
She has directed King Lear (1985 and 1989), Coriolanus (1986 and 1993), The Swan (1987), Titus Andronicus (1988, Olivier Award for best director), King John and The Good Person of Szechuan (both 1989), Hedda Gabler (1991), Woyzeck (1993), and Medea (2000). She also directed the film The Last September (1999).
