Seymour, Lynn
Canadian ballerina. She is known for her rare dramatic talent. She was principal dancer of the Royal Ballet from 1959 and artistic director of the Bavarian State Opera 1978–80. She enjoyed great success in a variety of roles, such as in the ballets Le Baiser de la fée (1960) and A Month in the Country (1976).
She formed a partnership with Christopher Gable (1940–98) in such ballets as The Invitation (1960), The Two Pigeons (1961), and Romeo and Juliet (1966) – a role which she had to teach to Margot Fonteyn and four other ballerinas before she could dance it on stage. She has also choreographed ballets including Rashomon (1976) and Wolfi (1987), on the death of Mozart.
