The US equivalent is the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) established by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It investigates possible employment discrimination based on race, sex, age, religion, or national origin. The EEOC has the power to initiate law suits in the federal district courts.
The points of the star represent the first seven verses of the Koran. Red, black, white, and green became the pan-Arab colours. Effective date: 16 April 1928.
