Sabine

Member of an ancient people of central Italy, conquered by the Romans and amalgamated with them in the 3rd century BC. The so-called rape of the Sabine women – a mythical attempt by Romulus in the early days of Rome to carry off the Sabine women to colonize the new city – is frequently depicted in art.
