Machine used for harvesting cereals and other crops, so called because it combines the actions of reaping (cutting the crop) and threshing (beating the ears so that the grain separates).
A combine, drawn by horses, was first built in Michigan in 1836. Today's mechanical combine harvesters are capable of cutting a swath of up to 9 m/30 ft or more.
