Lady is also used occasionally to describe a woman who is noted for kind and courteous behaviour: She's a real lady. In other contexts it sounds a little old-fashioned, and most people now use woman. Some women dislike the terms lady doctor, lady teacher, etc. It is best just to say doctor or teacher unless there is a good reason to specify the sex; if there is, use woman. See also girl.
