Kitchen planning

Plan your kitchen the celebrity way

Watch Antony Worrall Thompson, John Burton Race and Brian Turner discus their kitchens.
Also, read below how to best maximise your kitchen space.
Getting started

Getting started

Accurately measure in millimetres the length and width of your kitchen to calculate the floor area available. Draw these directly on to graph paper, dont forget to note down the position of doors, openings, windows, radiators and plumbing points such as water supplies, waste outlets, stop taps and gas / electric supplies.
The Working Triangle

The Working Triangle

Think about a 'working tiangle' where the sink, oven and fridge are arranged in a triangular configuration, or work 'zones' for particular tasks.

Keep movement to a minimum by careful placement of your oven and sink. Make the most of the space with a big larder unit - with three adjustable shelves to store everything from tins to a vacuum cleaner.
U-shaped Kitchen

The U-shaped Kitchen

Use 3 sides of the room to position your units, making use of the L-shape corner unit with wall units to make pactical use of the space above. Use a pull out bin linking unit in a small gap.
L-shaped Kitchen

The L-shaped Kitchen

A bit of extra room? Go for an L-shaped corner unit for optimum storage - they're great for housing large items like pots and pans or kitchen gadgets. This arrangement could also leave room for a narrow table.
