Beijing 2008 - The Official Video Game Of The Olympic Games

Beijing 2008 - The Official Video Game Of The Olympic Games
Beijing 2008 - The Official Video Game Of The Olympic Games - (Multi)

Developer: Eurocom
Format: Multi
Genre: Sport

Sport for everyone!

Certainly less controversial and possibly more entertaining, Beijing 2008 promises to deliver an authentic simulation of over 35 events from the upcoming Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Sega has been tasked with the development duties and if the fantastic Mario and Sonic at The Olympic Games is anything to go by we're in for a real treat.

Sega has jammed as many sports in as possible to relive the Olympic experience. Disciplines will include a wide variety of featured sports, such as aquatics (diving and swimming), archery, baseball, basketball, boxing, canoe/kayak, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football (soccer), gymnastics, handball, field hockey, Judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, shooting, softball, table tennis, Taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling.

But for all the sport in the world the title will live and die on the way it is played. The developers promise Beijing 2008 will incorporate innovative control schemes that allow novice gamers to learn how to play the game, while providing experienced gamers the chance to set new records. We're still placing our money on frantic button bashing as seen in the classic Track and Field games - especially in the running events.

Comprehensive online gameplay is the real selling point though. Sega is promising full online functionality for all platforms that can support network play. The chance to race for the line against gamers across the globe will no doubt have us demanding a photo finish. Expect a release at the end of June, if a bunch of protesters don't try and hijack it first.
